BAC Discount Lift Ticket Program

2007 - 2008

The BAC’s 2007-08 Discount Lift Ticket Purchase Program is underway, and I need your help to make it a success! This program extends to the 7,000+ BAC members and is one of its most meaningful benefits: deep discounts on lift tickets. Who doesn’t want to save money on the high cost of the sport we love?! In addition to passing on great savings to our members, this program is a cirtical source of funds for BAC to achieve its vision and goals. We add a surcharge of $1 to every new lift ticket we sell. This year, all returned tickets that are reordered for this ski season will have a $2.00 surcharge. This is a small amount paid by each buyer, but it adds up to significant income for the BAC. The council uses these funds, along with your club’s dues, for important benefits like publishing the monthly newsletter, making copies of flyers and other important information you take back to your clubs, and ensuring representation at the Far West Ski Association’s annual convention.

This year, I am continuing last year’s program to give you a tool to sell the deeply discounted lift tickets. This has been modified. Would you like to be a Platinum member or a Gold? You ask yourself, how can I be a member? It’s easy!! This is a two-tier program and where you fall on the tier will determine how many lift tickets you can get at close to nothing. You or your President can use these lift tickets to reward a deserving member or use as a raffle prize at a meeting. The price will be determined after the Nov 5th meeting. Announcements will be made at the December 3rd meeting as to which tier each ski club falls under. You then have two months to collect your award, starting December 3rd. Choice of resorts will be first come, first serve bases depending on availability.

Following is the tier and how much you need to sell in order to get the lift ticket nearly for nothing.

Membership     Amount                 # of tickets
Tier I                     $2,000-$3,999     1 comp for $20
Tier II                     $4,000-$5,999     2 comps for $35
Tier III                     $6,000 & above     3 comps for $50

This is my way of thanking you for you help in the BAC Discount Lift Ticket program. Without your hard work, this program cannot succeed. You say, “Okay, this sounds great! What can I do to help?”

Here’s where you come in. Since I will be handling the transactions with 9 ski resorts from and 32 plus BAC clubs, I need you to collect the individual orders from your club members and compile them into a single order to me on behalf of your club. To assist you in this task, you will find two forms in this mailing: one is the order form you will use to place your club’s consolidated order with the BAC; the other is a customized order form you may use to collect your individual club members’ orders. I have left the deadline date blank so that you can pick a date that works best for you. You will also need to write your phone number next to your name on the back of your club order form so that your members will know how to reach you in case they have questions.

Your club’s order is due to me by the November 5, 2007, BAC General Meeting at the Englander Restaurant in San Leandro. Absolutely no late orders will be accepted. If you will not be able to bring your club’s order to the General Meeting, please contact me, Sandy Kutaka before November 5th at 510 220-5496 or skiyomura@sbcglobal.net for alternate arrangements. Your order must be consolidated into one total order, and you must pay with one check from your club, made payable to “Bay Area Council of Ski Clubs.” Please ensure your club has sufficient funds in its checking account to cover your check to BAC. I will be turning the club checks over to the BAC Treasurer on November 5th for deposit that same night.

Lift tickets ordered by November 5th will be available shortly after Thanksgiving. I will distribute club orders at the December 3, 2007, BAC General Meeting. There is no guarantee tickets will be available before December 3rd. Please let your club members know that early season discount is much lower than the Corporate discount, so it may not be cost effective to get tickets before then.

Now you have the tools for the program. How can you sell this great deal to your club members? Use this introduction at your meeting when you are introducing the Discount Lift Ticket program.

“Who here wants to get something BIG for LESS?!”

Now that you got their attention go into the benefits of the program. Give them example of how much regular price tickets will be for the next season and how much they will save (approx. 15%) when they buy through the BAC. The lift tickets are good any day all season long. The tickets can be returned for credit towards next year’s program. Some resorts will let you use them for mountain biking or golf (for example, Northstar)

Only BAC Clubs who have paid their dues and have submitted their officer’s rosters to the BAC will be allowed to participate in the BAC’s 2007-2008 Discount Voucher Purchase Program. If your club has not submitted either, be prepared to deliver these items with your lift ticket order at the BAC General Meeting on Monday, November 5, 2007.

Questions? I’m here for you! Contact Sandy Kutaka BAC Benefits Director, at 510-220-5496 or skiyomura@sbcglobal.net

Finally, a big THANK YOU for helping make this year’s discount lift ticket program a great success!

Sandy Kutaka
